The layer of BLM leases is information-rich; here's how to get the most out of it.

  Zoomed Out/Basic Overview

When zoomed out, we provide you with an overview of the BLM leases in WY, UT, and CO. The patchwork pattern is due to the leases being color-coded by lessee.

  Zoomed-In Leases

As you zoom in, the outlines of each lease polygon appear. The largest lease-holding companies in the area have their own color; everyone else's leases have a dark tan color. In each lease, there is a point at the center of each PLSS section that lease covers, where one can see the owner name by mousing over the point.

  Lease Ownership

When one mouses over any of the points inside a lease, a red outline appears around all the different blocks that constitute that lease. IMPORTANT: The lessee shown on the map may be either the sole owner or a partial owner of the lease--you'll need to consult the LR2000 system for full ownership details.

  Lease Popup/BLM Link

Click on any of the points inside a lease and a popup will appear with cursory information. However there will also be a link to the BLM's LR2000 system (red arrow), that will launch a separate web page where much more detailed info is available.

  BLM LR2000 Report

The BLM page may list multiple reports for your lease area of interest. Match up the lease on the map by ensuring that the Case Disposition on the BLM page is listed as "Authorized" and the "Stored Acreage" is similar to the figure in the lease's pop-up window. Then click on the "LR2000 CR Report" for all the details about the lease.
